Taipei, Jan. 28 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has forecast clement but cold weather across Taiwan on Tuesday, with two eastern counties being the only areas likely to see light rain.

According to the CWA's website, skies will be partly sunny across most of the island on Lunar New Year's Eve, but temperatures during the day are expected to remain low due to the influence of a cold spell.

Daytime highs in regions north of Miaoli County in western Taiwan and areas north of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan are forecast to reach around 16 degrees Celsius.

In contrast, southern Taiwan is set to see highs of 20 degrees or above, the CWA said.

After sunset, temperatures across much of Taiwan, except for southern counties, could drop to 10 degrees or even lower, the CWA said.

Intermittent rain is expected in Hualien and Taitung counties, while northeasterly winds may bring gusts to coastal areas between Miaoli County and Tainan, as well as areas north of Hsinchu and parts of Hualien County, the agency added.

The CWA also noted potential swells along the coasts of Keelung, eastern Taiwan - including Orchid and Green Islands off Taitung County's coast - and the Hengchun Peninsula, urging visitors to these areas to remain cautious.
