Taipei, Feb. 16 (CNA) A U.K. parliamentary delegation led by co-chair of the British-Taiwanese All-Party Parliamentary Group Sarah Champion is visiting Taiwan and will meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Sunday.
In a statement, MOFA welcomed the seven-member cross-party parliamentary delegation, which will also meet with former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) during their Feb. 15-22 stay.
The delegation will also attend banquets hosted by Secretary-General of the National Security Council Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), MOFA added.
In addition, Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) and Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming (彭啟明) will meet with the visiting parliamentarians to exchange views on Taiwan's political and economic situation, Taiwan-U.K. bilateral relationship and regional security, according to the statement.
Outside of meeting with ministers and legislators, the delegation will head to Hsinchu City to visit the Taiwan Space Agency and Asia UAV AI Innovation Application R&D Center in Chiayi County.
MOFA described Champion as a staunch friend of Taiwan who has continually urged all sectors of British society to pay attention to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
Notably, when the U.K. House of Commons held a debate on Taiwan's international status in November 2024, Champion spoke for Taiwan, emphasizing that UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 did not mention Taiwan, nor did it exclude Taiwan's participation in international organizations such as the United Nations, MOFA said.
Also in the U.K. parliamentary delegation are Lord Purvis of Tweed, a member of the unelected House of Lords, and House of Commons members Ben Spencer, Yuan Yang, Helena Dollimore, Noah Law and David Reed, according to MOFA.
