Tokyo, Aug. 11 (CNA) The Taipei City government's Department of Information and Tourism took to Expo 2025 in Osaka on Sunday to promote tourism in Taiwan's capital city.

In a statement, the department said it organized the one-day event in the expo's Osaka Healthcare Pavilion, a domestic exhibition hall for the prefecture and city of Osaka as well as universities and businesses in the Osaka region.

Appearing at the event was tourism department Deputy Commissioner Shiue Chiu-huo (薛秋火) and Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau President Hiroshi Mizohata, but the star was Taipei's tourism mascot Bravo the bear.

Bravo led visitors to Sunday event's in various interactive activities such as the mascot's signature dance and prize-winning games.

The bear mascot also joined Expo 2025's own mascot, Myaku-Myaku, at a separate appearance the same day to mutually promote Taipei and the Osaka-held World Expo, which runs until Oct. 13.

Shiue said the Taipei tourism department decided to work with its Osaka counterpart to promote the Taiwanese capital in hopes of capitalizing on the tens of millions of visitors Expo 2025 had already attracted.

"This special collaboration with the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau to promote Taipei tourism on the stage of the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion is intended to display the charm of Taipei's urban diversity to travelers around the world," Shiue said.

Shiue also presented Osaka Prefecture Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura with souvenirs from Taipei and a personal invitation to visit Taiwan's capital.

Mizohata, meanwhile, said he had visited Taipei multiple times and remembered fondly being a part of the Taipei Marathon last year.

He said that on top of welcoming locals, Taipei was full of surprises every time he visited, adding that Japanese travelers should visit Taipei to experience the city's delicacies, hot springs and warmth.

Taipei's tourism department also gave visitors to Sunday's event an incentive to visit the city, saying they could present their expo ticket and passport at dozens of designated shops in Taipei to get discounts on purchases.
