Taipei, Aug. 25 (CNA) The National Development Council (NDC) on Monday called for closer Taiwan-Japan collaboration on innovation and supply chain integration to foster mutual growth.

The call was made at the two-day Japan-Taiwan Innovation Summit that opened in Tokyo on Monday, with NDC chief Liu Chin-ching (劉鏡清) leading a delegation of 45 Taiwanese companies to the conference, according to an NDC statement.

Since its launch in 2022, the summit has connected more than 100 Taiwanese startups with hundreds of Japanese companies, venture capital firms, and financial institutions, helping them expand into overseas markets and strengthen their brand visibility, the NDC said.

On the opening day of this year's event, Liu said that while Taiwan's industries have achieved many "world firsts" in the past, they now need momentum from innovation and entrepreneurship to reach new heights.

To support this, the NDC has been pursuing several strategies for Taiwanese startups, including holding competitions to expand investment opportunities, providing comprehensive training to improve success rates, and helping them enter overseas markets.

The 2025 summit is focusing on four main themes: corporate venture capital (CVC), mergers and acquisitions (M&A), deep tech, and international corporate collaboration.

Discussions on CVC and M&A are expected to strengthen links between Taiwan and Japan's capital markets, while deep tech and international cooperation could spark new partnerships, the NDC said.

The event, organized by the NDC in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Japan External Trade Organization, is being held at Tokyo's Imperial Hotel through Tuesday.
