Taipei, Oct. 12 (CNA) A Taiwanese police officer has been named for the first time as one of the world's top 40 law enforcement professionals under the age of 40, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) said in a statement Friday.

The award, given by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), recognizes 40 law enforcement professionals around the world who demonstrate leadership and exemplify commitment to their profession.

The Taiwanese award recipient was 38-year-old Lin Shao-fan (林少凡), who graduated from the 68th class of Taiwan's Central Police University and has been serving in law enforcement for over 10 years, the statement said.

Lin, who studied international relations in graduate school in the U.S., served in the National Police Agency's (NPA's) international affairs division from 2003 to 2013, and has been stationed in the U.S. since December 2014 as a liaison officer for the CIB, the statement said.

While in the U.S., Lin has participated in law enforcement activities involving overseas Taiwanese expatriates and represented Taiwanese law enforcement personnel in international exchanges.

He has also helped establish partnerships, such as organizing seminars with the volunteer organization Taiwanese-American First Responders Benevolent Organization on how to respond to large-scale shooting incidents, and invited local law enforcement agencies to participate in the Washington Dragon Boat Festival.

Lin has also assisted police in Taiwan in working with federal, state and local police and law enforcement agencies in the U.S., and has invited U.S. and Canadian police officers to visit Taiwan to strengthen exchanges.

Other recipients of the award come from the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Colombia, the CIB said.

The IACP is a professional association for police leaders and has over 30,000 members in 150 countries, according to the association's website.
