Taipei, Dec. 12 (CNA) Free WiFi access is now available in all 117 Taipei Metro stations in Taipei and New Taipei, an official from the Taipei City Department of Information Technology said Tuesday.

Commuters can use the free service by connecting via a Taipei Free, iTaiwan, Facebook or Far Eastone account, according to Shih Chieh-hsuan (施婕瑄) of the department's infrastructure division.

While the city has also been working on WiFi access on the Metro trains themselves, the connections are currently not strong enough for commuters to access, she said.

A telecommunications company is currently working on strengthening the system, the official continued.

The Taipei City government has been working with the Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. since July to make WiFi access available to commuters at its stations.
