Taipei, May 11 (CNA) The Taiwan International Boat Show being held in Kaohsiung is expected to generate NT$4.2 billion (US$139.3 million) in sales, organizers said Sunday.

Thirty-two yachts and boats worth NT$1 billion have been sold since the exhibition opened on May 8, and buyers are expected to order another 30 yachts, pushing total sales to NT$4.2 billion, according to Taiwan External Trade Development Council Vice President Walter Yeh.

The boat show, which ends Sunday, has drawn 45,000 domestic visitors and over 2,000 overseas buyers including China, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Major local builders, including Horizon Yachts and Kha Shing Enterprises Co., said more than half of their orders were placed by buyers in Taiwan.

Taiwan's yacht market has tremendous potential for growth, Yeh said, because there are only some 100 registered yachts in Taiwan compared with 1 million in Australia, which has roughly the same population as Taiwan's.
