Bus driver given NT$100,000 bail

Taipei, May 10 (CNA) The driver whose tour bus overturnedWednesday in Taroko National Park in eastern Hualien Countywas granted NT$100,000 (US$3,400) bail Thursday.

Chen Cheng-chin, 59, was given bail after being charged withcausing injury through negligence of duty. He is required to report to Hualien prosecutors when summoned.

Apart from the driver, 13 South Korean tourists and a local tour guide suffered minor injuries and were rushed to several localhospitals. None of the victims has filed a compliant with prosecutors.

A preliminary investigation found that the tour bus driver wasat fault for not having a license to drive large passenger buses.

The driver and the tour bus company has been fined NT$40,000 (US$1,360) each, in accordance with the the Act Governing thePunishment of Violations of Road Traffic Regulations.

Each of the tourists had travel insurance coverage of NT$2 million, according to the Tourism Bureau.
