Taipei, July 1 (CNA) Taiwanese officials, including Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin, joined a carnival in the city on Sunday in celebration of Canada's national day.

Noting that more Canadians live in Taipei than in any other city in Taiwan, Hau said he hoped Taipei residents would gain a deeper understanding of Canada through the festival.

More than 30,000 visitors took part in the free two-day festival that featured food, live music and sports activities, all reflecting Canadian culture, according to organizers.

The activities also included a fine arts display, performances by bands from Taiwan and abroad, and hockey games, said the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei.

Anvil, a Canadian heavy metal band, gave a ticketed concert at the festival venue at Huashan 1914 Creative Park.

July 1 marks the 145th birthday of Canada.
