Taipei, April 7 (CNA) Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corp. (宏達電) said Tuesday it touched the low end of its quarterly revenue forecast for the first three months of 2015 as its sales surged in March.

The Taoyuan-based company reported unaudited consolidated revenue of NT$41.52 billion (US$1.34 billion) for the first quarter, in line with its estimate of between NT$41.5 billion and NT$45 billion that was set on Feb. 6.

The figure represented a 13 percent sequential decline from the fourth-quarter revenue of NT$47.9 billion amid a slow season for consumer electronics.

First-quarter operating profit was NT$20 million and net profit after tax was NT$360 million, translating into earnings per share of NT$0.43, which met the company's expectation on an EPS range of between NT$0.08 and NT$0.47.

In March alone, HTC posted consolidated revenue of NT$20.02 billion, up 117.02 percent from the previous month and up 23.41 percent from a year earlier following the launch of its flagship One M9 phone.

HTC shares opened 1.47 percent higher at NT$138.5 in Taipei morning trade Tuesday.
