Shanghai, May 13 (CNA) A Taiwan premium product exhibition opened in Shanghai this weekend, and is displaying products ranging from high tech savvy electronics to the inclusion of health, living, and leisure products, said the organizer Saturday.
The Taiwan Excellence Fair, being held in two Buynow IT Malls in Mei Luo Cheng and Xuhui district in the city and will run through May 16, has attracted more than 40 Taiwan companies displaying over 100 products this year, said Walter Yeh, executive vice president of the Taipei World Trade Center, which organizes the fair.
To increase visibility and help open markets for Taiwan brands in China, similar Taiwan promotional fairs were organized in 2011 by the center in China and received positive feedback, said Yeh.
This year, the center chose to cooperate with Taiwan-invested electronic retail company Buynow IT Mall in China.
Cooperation between brands and distribution channels is a necessity for brand development, as companies have to allow consumers to experience the products' quality and services, Yeh added.
The product fairs are very effective in creating business opportunities in China, and many Taiwan companies are willing to attend the fair, said Buynow CEO Tsai Ming-hsien.
In addition, the products are more diverse this year, with a surge in green energy and energy saving devices, said Tsai.
Asked why the electronic retail mall sells items including health, living, and leisure products in this year's exhibition, Tsai said the consumer trend for electronic retailers now includes selling items other than electronic goods, such as one of the franchises in Guangzhou City has a Taiwan gourmet area on the top floor.
Buynow estimated the five day fair would attract over 10 million people, as the number of daily visitors to the Mei Luo Cheng, one of the busiest commercial districts in Shanghai, is about one million, and 1.6 million on the weekends.
Taiwan pop singer Hebe, from girl group S.H.E., helped to promote the fair this year and attracted a huge crowd at the event.
