Taipei, April 28 (CNA) Foxconn Technology Group, one of Apple Inc.'s major suppliers, plans to build a hospital and a school in Shenzhen, China, as part of efforts to provide better services not only to its workers but also to other local people, the company'schairman said Saturday.
In the initial stage, the project will include a hospital that will provide local people with affordable and high-quality medical service, Terry Gou told reporters on the sidelines of a fun fest in New Taipei to reward the company's outstanding workers in China.
"If Taiwan can make such good quality iPhones and iPads, of course we can manage to run a good hospital in China," Gou said.
Gou said he wants to introduce a new medical system in China that would make it easier for local people to see a doctor.
There will also be a multilingual school where the children of Foxconn employees can learn Chinese, English and Japanese, the tycoon said.
The company will first work with local elementary schools, and then open a high school or even a college in the city, he said.
Guo said he has not yet decided on the locations of the hospital and school but is looking for somewhere close to the company's factory in Shenzhen.
If the hospital and school turn out to be good projects, the company will duplicate the model near its other inland factories, he said.
He said his company also plans to set up factories, sales units, manufacturing units and research and development units in any Chinese city with a population of more than 5 million.
