Taipei, Oct. 8 (CNA) The government-funded Taiwan Panorama magazine is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an exhibition of some of its best photographs of Taiwan's social, economic and political development over the past half-century.

The free-entry exhibition will be held at Taipei's Huashan 1914 Creative Park from Friday through Oct. 19. It will feature four sections exploring everyday life, public infrastructure and resilience, democracy and freedom, and Taiwan's presence on the world stage, according to the magazine.

At a Thursday ceremony to launch "Taiwan Panorama 50 Through Photography - Taiwan in Focus," Deputy Foreign Minister François Wu (吳志中) said that since its inauguration in 1976, Taiwan Panorama has documented Taiwan's stories through different eras as the country has experienced "remarkable economic development and democratic transformation."

Today, Taiwan is a "global leader in technology and semiconductors" and has become "more diverse, open and deeply connected to the world," Wu said.

The publication has accumulated an archive of about 500,000 photographs, allowing readers to trace each phase of this evolution through the pages of Taiwan Panorama, he said.

The magazine is published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a monthly bilingual publication, with Chinese-English and Chinese-Japanese editions.

As the magazine is set to end its print edition and transition to a digital format at the end of this year, Wu said its vast collection of stories and images would continue to live on through digital platforms, online exhibitions and more diverse content.

"The tools used to communicate may change, but the mission of Taiwan Panorama will remain the same. To tell the Taiwan story to the world, Taiwan Panorama is taking a new approach toward helping people," he added.
