Taipei, July 12 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis veteran Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and her doubles partner, Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, advanced to the Wimbledon women's doubles final on Friday.
The fourth-seeded duo defeated top seeds Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic and Taylor Townsend of the United States in two straight sets in the semifinals.
In the opening, after failing to hold their serve in the first game, Hsieh and Ostapenko quickly rebounded and capitalized on their opponents' frequent unforced errors to take the first set 7-5.
The Taiwanese-Latvian pair maintained their strong momentum in the second set, breaking their opponents' serve early to stay in the lead and eventually sealing the match 6-4.
They will next face eighth-seeded Veronika Kudermetova of Russia and Elise Mertens of Belgium in the final.
The 39-year-old Taiwanese will be vying for her fifth Wimbledon women's doubles title and 10th Grand Slam trophy.
Hsieh partnered with Mertens to win the women's doubles championship at the 2024 Australian Open.
