Taipei, Oct. 7 (CNA) The first wave of northeasterly fall winds will reach Taiwan on Wednesday, bringing slightly cooler temperatures and occasional showers through the National Day holiday on Friday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
Forecasters said the winds will not be particularly strong and moisture levels will remain limited, though daytime highs are expected to dip slightly across the island.
Another, stronger surge of cool air is likely to affect Taiwan in mid to late October, the administration added.
From Wednesday to Friday, brief showers are expected in northeastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula in the south, while eastern Taiwan may see scattered light rain, the CWA said.
Most other areas will stay mostly sunny, with isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible in central and southern regions, it said.
Highs across the country will range between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius through National Day, rising slightly over the weekend, according to the CWA.

The northeasterly winds will weaken afterward, but lingering moisture could still bring brief showers to windward areas and isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the central and southern mountains, it said.
Meanwhile, the CWA said that Typhoon Halong poses no threat to Taiwan.
As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, Halong was located about 1,660 kilometers east-northeast of Taipei, moving north-northwest at a speed of 15 km per hour.
