Once a local god, Master Handan now a protected cultural asset

There are many unverifiable legends to explain why Taitung County people celebrate the annual Lantern Festival by throwing firecrackers at a shirtless man playing "Master Handan, " but what is certain is that the ritual has evolved into a tresured cultural event.
