Taiwan's Hon Hai unveils Model A electric vehicle for Japan launch
Taipei, Nov. 21 (CNA) Taiwan-based manufacturing giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. on Friday unveiled its new Model A electric vehicle at the opening of Hon Hai Tech Day, with Japan set as its initial target market.
Hon Hai Chairman Young Liu (劉揚偉) said the Model A -- jointly designed by Taiwanese and Japanese teams -- is also being pitched to potential clients in Southeast Asia as the company explores opportunities for broader regional adoption.
Jun Seki, Hon Hai's chief strategy officer for EVs, presented three configurations of the Model A tailored to different industries and usage scenarios.
He said the vehicle incorporates Hon Hai's ICT expertise, featuring a slim battery pack capable of being fully charged in 20 minutes and supported by an AI-driven battery management system.
Liu said the company will set up a local entity in Japan to support customers, adding that production of the Model A is also expected to take place in that country.
This year's Tech Day -- an annual event to showcase the company's products -- was held in Hon Hai's largest exhibition area to date, showcasing more than 200 products and technologies.
The EV zone featured six color variants of the Model B, three specialized versions of the Model A, as well as the Model T electric bus, the mid-sized Model U bus, the Model D, and a North American version of the Model C available for test rides.
