Taipei, June 26 (CNA) A tropical depression near the Philippines is likely to develop into a tropical storm overnight Tuesday and may affect Taiwan, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The depression, located 1,460 kilometers southeast of Taiwan's southern tip as of Tuesday afternoon, was moving at a speed of 20 km per hour in a west-northwesterly direction, the weather bureau said.
Whether or not the depression develops into a storm, the chances of rain in eastern Taiwan will increase from June 28, CWB forecasters said.
An unstable weather pattern is expected to prevail in northern and southern Taiwan from June 29 and into next week, they said.
