Taipei, April 23 (CNA) Heavyweight politicians from abroad will attend President Ma Ying-jeou's inauguration to his second term next month, Foreign Minister Timothy Yang said Monday, but would not disclose their names.
So far five heads of state and 40 delegations, totaling 223 individuals, have signed up for the May 20 ceremony, Yang said in a question-and-answer session at the Legislature's Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee.
But the names of the invited guests are being held back from the public for the time being, Yang said in response to a question posed by Kuomintang lawmaker Chiang Chi-chen.
The minister did reveal, however, that United States Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who also serves as chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, will be leading a delegation to the celebration.
A "heavyweight who has access to top officials" in the U.S. is also being invited, Yang said, without elaborating.
