Pre-orders for new iPhones kick off in Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 13 (CNA) Apple Inc. will begin Friday taking pre-orders for two of its three new iPhone models in Taiwan, which has been listed by the U.S. high-tech giant among its first-wave markets for the new devices, according to Apple's (Taiwan) official website.

On Wednesday, Apple debuted three new iPhones -- the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max, the largest iPhone so far, which will be sold at a starting price of NT$39,900 (US$1,300), the 5.8-inch iPhone XS, which will start at NT$35.900, and the 6.1-inch iPhone XR, with a starting price of NT$26,900.

Pre-orders for the first two more expensive models with OLED screen will begin at 3:01 p.m. Friday, while pre-orders for the cheaper iPhone XR with LED screen will start at 3:01 p.m. Oct. 19, according to Apple (Taiwan).

Sales of the first two new models will start from Sept. 21, while those of the iPhone XR will be launched at a later date, the company said.

Meanwhile, Far EasTone Telecommunications Co., Ltd., one of the five major telecommunications companies in Taiwan, took the lead in announcing that effective immediately, customers can pre-order the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max at its stores across the country, or purchase the two new models in person at its outlets from Sept. 21.

Taiwan Mobile Co., Ltd. and Taiwan Star Telecom Corp., Ltd. also announced that pre-orders for the new iPhones have started, while Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. and Asia Pacific Telecom Co., Ltd. have yet to announce when they will launch pre-orders.
