Taipei, July 31 (CNA) Taiwan's gross domestic product (GDP) for the second quarter of this year rose 0.64 percent from a year earlier, compared with an earlier forecast of a 3.05 percent increase, according to an advance estimate released by the government Friday.

The meager growth followed weak economic performance in the three-month period, including a 13.9-percent annual drop in exports in June.

The increase was the smallest in 11 quarters. After seasonal adjustments, Taiwan's second-quarter GDP declined by 1.97 percent from the previous quarter, according to the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS).
