Taipei, Sept. 27 (CNA) Taiwan, competing under the name of Chinese Taipei, has gained 27 medals -- including 2 gold, 7 silver and 18 bronze -- at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games (the 20th Asian Games), as of 2:55 p.m. Sunday.

The Asian Games are taking place in Japan's Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.

Since Taiwan first participated in the Asian Games in 1954, it has won a total of 586 medals -- 118 gold, 164 silver and 304 bronze -- through the end of the previous edition in Hangzhou, China, in 2022.

At the Hangzhou Asian Games, Taiwan won 19 gold, 20 silver and 28 bronze medals, ranking sixth overall.

That performance tied Taiwan's showing at the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games for the most gold medals it has won at an Asian Games.

Its 67 total medals in Hangzhou matched the number won at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and rank as the second most in its history, behind the 77 won in Bangkok in 1998.
