Taipei, Oct. 12 (CNA) Taiwan's Wang Chieh-ling (王婕菱) won bronze in the women's under-49 kilogram category at the Paris 2026 World Taekwondo Grand Prix on Sunday, local time, after losing to China's Ma Jingyue (馬靜月) in the semifinals.
The 17-year-old had reached the semifinals earlier in the day by defeating Russia's Alisa Angelova 16-8, 31-14 to win both rounds.
But Wang was unable to overcome Ma, an Asian Games gold medalist, losing 8-5 and 10-7.
Wang won gold in the women's under-46kg category at the Asian Taekwondo Championships in May, a strong start to her first season in the senior division.
At the Asian Games in Nagoya in September, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals. She then turned her attention to the Paris Grand Prix, seeking more experience against elite senior competitors and a chance to build on her international results.
