Taiwan wins first Asian Games gold in soft tennis mixed doubles

Taipei, Sept. 21 (CNA) Taiwan's Yu Kai-wen (余凱文) and Huang Shih-yuan (黃詩媛) won gold in the soft tennis mixed doubles final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday, defeating a Japanese pair in a nail-biting match to secure Taiwan's first gold medal at this year's Games.

Yu and Huang edged Japan's Toshiki Uematsu and Rena Temma 5-4 in games (2-4, 5-3, 4-2, 1-4, 1-4, 4-0, 1-4, 4-1, 7-5), winning the deciding ninth game 7-5.

The victory gave Taiwan its first Asian Games gold in soft tennis mixed doubles since 2018.
