Taipei, Nov. 18 (CNA) Wei Yu-tze (危宇澤) has secured Taiwan's first medal at the 2025 Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, taking silver in the men's decathlon.

Wei finished second Tuesday with 5,985 points, giving Taiwan its first medal since An Ching-lung (安慶隆) competed in the same category and stood on the podium at every edition of the quadrennial competition from 2001 to 2009.

The 18-year-old Wei was making his international debut in Tokyo, where he was the youngest of the 10 competitors.

He previously won gold in the men's long jump and silver in the men's 100 meters at the 2024 World Deaf Youth Games in São Paulo, Brazil.

Taiwan has 76 athletes competing in 11 sports at the ongoing Deaflympics, which run through Nov. 26.
