Motorcyclist struck, killed by gravel truck on Taipei's Dazhi Bridge

Taipei, Sept. 22 (CNA) A female motorcyclist was struck and killed by a gravel truck as it changed lanes on Taipei's Dazhi Bridge on Tuesday morning, local authorities said.

The Taipei City Police Department's Zhongshan Precinct said it received a call at 8:22 a.m. about a vehicle accident on the Dazhi Bridge, which crosses the Keelung River and connects the Dazhi area to downtown Taipei.

Officers arriving at the scene found that a gravel truck driver, surnamed Ho (何), had been driving south on the bridge and started to change lanes when he struck and ran over the female motorcyclist, surnamed Chang (張).

Chang suffered serious injuries to the head and died at the scene, police said.

According to local media reports, Ho is 46 and Chang was 41.

Police said Ho tested negative at the scene for drugs and alcohol, and that the crash is being investigated as a case of negligent homicide. Details about how exactly the accident occurred are still being confirmed.
