10 injured, 1 seriously in Kaohsiung power plant accident

Kaohsiung, Sept. 22 (CNA) Ten people were hospitalized Tuesday after suffering inhalation injuries in a workplace accident at the Nanpu Power Plant in Kaohsiung's Cianjhen District, with one of them in serious condition, Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) said.

The accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. while workers were carrying out maintenance on a hydrochloric acid storage tank at Unit 4 of the gas-fired power plant, Taipower said.

The unit is operating normally, the state-run utility said, without providing any details related to the accident, though it did said an investigation into the accident is underway.
