Most of Taiwan to see partly cloudy to sunny skies through Sunday: CWA

Taipei, Sept. 22 (CNA) Partly cloudy to sunny skies are expected across most of Taiwan through the weekend, with localized showers likely in some areas, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Tuesday.

CWA forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳) told CNA that southern Taiwan may experience localized showers on Tuesday, while mountainous areas in central and eastern Taiwan may see afternoon showers. The rest of the island is forecast to remain cloudy or sunny.

A similar weather pattern is expected for the rest of the week, with mostly cloudy to sunny skies and scattered afternoon showers in southern Taiwan and mountainous areas elsewhere, Chang said.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the northern coast, northeastern Taiwan and the Greater Taipei area may also see scattered showers, he said.

Temperatures are expected to remain stable throughout the week, with daytime highs of around 30-34 degrees Celsius and nighttime lows of 22-25 degrees across the island, Chang said.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure system near Guam may develop into a tropical depression on Wednesday or Thursday and could further strengthen into a tropical storm, which would be named Surigae, on Thursday or Friday, Chang said.

The system could move toward waters off Taiwan's east coast, Cheng said, but he cautioned that there was no clear consensus yet on the storm's future path.
