Man stabs employee, himself at Fubon Life office in Taipei

Taipei, Sept. 21 (CNA) A man entered a Fubon Life office building in Taipei on Monday and stabbed an employee before turning the knife on himself, leaving both men unconscious, authorities said.

In a statement, Fubon Life said a male employee, surnamed Hung (洪), in its communications department was stabbed by an intruder at its offices Monday morning.

Company personnel immediately reported the incident to police and arranged for the injured employee to receive medical attention, the company said, adding that it would fully cooperate with the police investigation.

The Taipei Police Department said it received a report at 11:10 a.m. of a stabbing at Fubon Life's offices on Section 2 of Jianguo North Road in the city's Zhongshan District.

Officers arriving at the scene found two men unconscious on the floor with knife wounds. Both were rushed to hospitals for emergency treatment, police said.

According to a preliminary investigation, the suspect is believed to have used another person's ID to enter the office, where he attacked Hung, apparently at random.

Hung suffered stab or slash wounds to the back of his neck, the insides of both thighs, his chest and the underside of his wrist before losing consciousness, police said.

The attacker then stabbed or slashed himself in the chest and on the right side of his neck before losing consciousness, police said.

The attacker's identity had not been officially confirmed as of press time. He was initially misidentified because he was carrying another person's ID.

Police are investigating the attacker's motive. The conditions of both men following the attack remained unclear.
