Mild temperatures, showers forecast for northern, eastern Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 16 (CNA) A northeasterly wind system will continue to affect northern and eastern Taiwan over the next few days, bringing mild temperatures and a chance of rain, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

CWA forecaster Huang En-hung (黃恩鴻) told CNA that although the wind system will weaken slightly Thursday, it will continue to affect Taiwan's weather through Saturday.

During that three-day period, brief, scattered showers are forecast for Greater Taipei and eastern Taiwan, while isolated showers are possible in mountainous areas and southern Taiwan, Huang said.

Slightly wetter conditions are expected Sunday, with scattered showers forecast in areas north of Taoyuan, eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula in the south, Huang said.

Drier weather is expected as the new workweek begins, according to the CWA.

Temperatures are forecast to remain relatively stable through this weekend, with highs of 29-31 degrees Celsius in northern and eastern Taiwan and 32-33 degrees in central and southern Taiwan, Huang said.

Overnight lows are expected to range between 23 and 25 degrees nationwide.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression about 3,000 kilometers east of Taiwan could strengthen into a tropical storm overnight, but is forecast to move northwest toward Japan, according to the CWA.
