Taipei, Sept. 14 (CNA) The Taoyuan Airport MRT will run an additional train from Taipei to Taoyuan Airport starting Sept. 21 to help ease congestion during the weekday evening commute, its operator said Monday.
In a press release, Taoyuan Metro said the additional train will depart Taipei Main Station (A1) at 6:04 p.m. on weekdays, stopping at every station along the way before reaching Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2 (A13) at 6:50 p.m.
With the additional service, trains from Taipei Main Station to the airport will depart every 5.5 minutes on average between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., compared with every six minutes currently, Taoyuan Metro said.
Passengers who board the new 6:04 p.m. train and plan to continue to Taoyuan HSR Station (A18) or toward Zhongli can get off at Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2 (A13) and transfer to a subsequent train from there, the statement said.
Through the end of August this year, average daily ridership on the Taoyuan Airport MRT reached a record high of 130,681, Taoyuan Metro said.
Aside from travelers, weekday evening trains are frequently used by students and workers commuting from Taipei Main Station to residential areas in New Taipei's Xinzhuang District and Taoyuan's Linkou and Guishan districts, it added.
