Taipei, Aug. 21 (CNA) A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Chiayi County in southern Taiwan at 4:37 p.m. Thursday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The epicenter was located about 36.3 kilometers southeast of Chiayi County Hall, at a depth of 10.4 km, CWA data showed.
There were no immediate reports of damage.
The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effects of a temblor, was highest in parts of Chiayi County, Tainan and Kaohsiung, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's seven-tier intensity scale.
It measured 3 in Chiayi City and 2 in Pingtung, Taitung, Hualien, Changhua, Nantou and Penghu counties.
