Taipei, June 20 (CNA) A group of 50 tourists stranded on a mountain in central Taiwan due to a landslide on Friday were rescued after more than five hours.

The tourists, who were visiting the Basianshan National Forest Recreation Area in Taichung, were unable to leave after a landslide occurred at around 1:40 p.m. blocking the road down the mountain.

They took shelter at a nearby visitor center while waiting for the road to be cleared.

After more than five hours of repair work, the road was reopened to traffic at 7:05 p.m., and the tourists were later transported down the mountain, according to the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency's Taichung Branch.
