CORONAVIRUS/One new imported COVID-19 case brings total in Taiwan to 507
Taipei, Sept. 20 (CNA) Taiwan recorded one new imported case of COVID-19 infection on Sunday, bringing its total number to 507 since the first one was recorded on Jan. 21, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The new patient is a Philippine woman in her 30s who flew to Taiwan from her home country on Friday to work as a domestic caregiver, CECC spokesman Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said at a press briefing.
The woman showed no symptoms on arrival but was tested for COVID-19, as is required for all incoming passengers from the Philippines, Chaung said.
The results came back positive Sunday, and the asymptomatic patient is now in hospital in a negative pressure isolation room, he said.
The CECC has traced 23 contacts who were on the same flight as the woman, including nine passengers who were seated in the rows near her, and they have all been instructed to remain in home isolation, Chunag said.
The other 14 contacts are members of the flight crew, who have been advised to observe self-health management, as they had taken protective measures during the flight, he said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 507 cases of COVID-19, with 415 classified as imported. Of the total, 479 have recovered, seven have died, and 21 are in hospital, according to CECC data.
