ASIAN GAMES/Hurdler Lin wins bronze as Taiwan adds four Asian Games medals Monday

Nagoya, Sept. 28 (CNA) Lin Chung-wei (林仲威) won bronze in the men's 400-meter hurdles at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday, one of four bronze medals Taiwan collected during the day.

His finish gave Taiwan a track and field medal for the second straight day, following Fu Chao-hsuan's (傅兆玄) gold in the men's high jump Sunday.

Lin entered the final with a time of 49.10 seconds, the second-fastest time in the heats. He stayed among the leaders and was level for second after clearing the last hurdle, before finishing third in a personal-best 48.74 seconds.

Qatar's Bassem Hemeida won in 47.82 seconds, and Japan's Taiju Goto took silver with a personal-best 47.93. Taiwan's Chen Jian-rong (陳建榮) placed fourth, also setting a personal best of 49.25 seconds.

Lin's previous best was 48.77 seconds, set at a meet in Japan in May.

Taiwan's other bronzes came in badminton mixed doubles, table tennis men's singles and the women's 25-meter pistol team event.

Badminton pair Ye Hong-wei (葉宏蔚) and Nicole Gonzales Chan (詹又蓁) lost their semifinal to China's Jiang Zhenbang (蔣振邦) and Wei Yaxin (魏雅欣) 21-13, 21-9, forcing them to settle for a bronze medal, Taiwan's first Asian Games mixed doubles badminton medal since 2010.

In table tennis, Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒) took men's singles bronze after losing a semifinal match that went the maximum seven games to China's Lin Shidong (林詩棟), 10-12, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9.

Shooters Cheng Yen-ching (鄭晏晴), Tien Chia-chen (田家榛) and Chen Yu-ju (陳俞如) combined for 1,734 points to place third in the women's 25-meter pistol team event, behind China and South Korea.

As of Monday night, Taiwan had won three golds, seven silvers and 23 bronzes.
