Taiwan wins 3 golds, 3 silvers, 7 bronzes at WorldSkills Competition

Shanghai, Sept. 28 (CNA) Taiwanese competitors won a total of 13 medals at the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competition held in China last week, according to Taiwan's Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

The Taiwanese competitors, who are experts in their respective vocational fields, bagged three gold, three silver, and seven bronze medals, the WDA, an agency within the Ministry of Labor, said Sunday.

Additionally, Taiwan also won 30 Medallions for Excellence, awarded to competitors who rack up a high number of points in an event but fall short of winning a gold, silver or bronze medal, the WDA said.

Taiwan's three golds were won by four professionals in two competitions, the agency said.

In the Information and Communication Technology competition, Taiwan's Lu Zhi-kuan (呂治寬) took gold for his skills in the Software Applications Development category, while the team of Chiu Yu-hsiang (邱昱翔) and Yang Yong-xu (楊詠旭) clinched the gold for Cyber Security, according to the WDA.

The third gold medal was won by Yang Yu-chun (楊宇鈞) for Floristry in the Creative Arts and Fashion competition, it said.

Meanwhile, Taiwan took silver for Cabinetmaking in the Construction and Building Technology competition, Mechatronics in the Manufacturing and Engineering Technology segment, and Beauty Therapy in the Social and Personal Services contest, according to the WorldSkills website.

Three of the seven bronze medals won by the Taiwanese contenders were in the Social and Personal Services competition, respectively in the Hairdressing, Bakery, as well as Pâtisserie and Confectionery categories.

The winners were announced and the medals were all awarded at the closing ceremony on Sunday in Shanghai, after the four-day competition, which drew 53 Taiwanese in 47 professions, according to the WDA.

A total of 1,400 contestants from 68 countries and regions participated in the 48th WorldSkills Competition, a biennial event that ran from Tuesday to Sunday last week, testing their skills in 64 categories.

The skill events themselves were held from Wednesday to Saturday.
