Guatemalan president arrives in Taiwan to deepen bilateral cooperation

Taoyuan, June 4 (CNA) President of Guatemala Bernardo Arévalo and First Lady Lucrecia Peinado arrived in Taiwan on Wednesday for a state visit.

Arévalo and his delegation arrived at Taoyuan International Airport at 4:55 p.m., where they were greeted by Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍).

In a speech delivered at the airport, Arévalo said he was delighted to be in the Republic of China (Taiwan). He noted that he brings with him a message of significance, responsibility, and commitment from the people of Guatemala that is centered on the desire to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen mutual friendship.

Arévalo further said that this visit marks a vital working relationship, intended to strengthen the bond between the two countries, adding that he believes this trip will open a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.

The Guatemalan president described it as the beginning of a strategic alliance dedicated to the well-being, happiness, and future development of the people of the two countries.

According to Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Arévalo and the first lady are leading a delegation on a state visit from June 4-8 at the invitation of the Taiwanese government. The 10-member delegation includes key officials such as Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez and Minister of Economy Gabriela García.

During his stay, Arévalo is expected to meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德).
