Taipei, May 19 (CNA) President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Monday sent well wishes on behalf of the people of Taiwan to former U.S. President Joe Biden after reports that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

"Our thoughts are with former President @JoeBiden and his family following the news of his diagnosis. On behalf of the people of Taiwan, I extend our sincerest wishes for his steady and full recovery," wrote Lai in a post on the social media platform X just before 11 a.m. on Monday in Taipei.

Lai's post came after Biden's office issued a statement on Sunday in the United States, explaining the doctors' findings regarding the prostate cancer, which has spread after the 82-year-old former president reported urinary symptoms.

"The president and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians," Biden's office said.
