Amanda Mansour, a diplomat who speaks Mandarin Chinese, assumed her duties Thursday as spokeswoman for the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), which represents U.S. interests in Taiwan in the absence of diplomatic ties, the AIT announced in a statement issued that day.
