VietJet Air to launch regular flights between Da Nang and Taiwan
Taipei, April 19 (CNA) Vietnamese budget carrier VietJet Air will begin operating regular flights between Da Nang and Taiwan in June, the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said Friday.
The CAA said the agency has given VietJet Air the green light to fly between Da Nang, Vietnam's fourth largest city, and Taoyuan and Kaohsiung in Taiwan for a 10-year period until April 9, 2029.
VietJet Air will begin a schedule of three round-trip flights a week between Da Nang and Kaohsiung on June 5 and three round-trip flights a week between Da Nang and Taoyuan starting June 6, the CAA said.
Founded in 2007, VietJet Air began flying commercially in 2011 and entered the Taiwan market in 2014.
The Vietnamese carrier currently operates more than 50 round-trip flights on seven routes connecting Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung in Taiwan and Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam.
Da Nang, located in central Vietnam, is well-known for its beaches and has attracted a growing number of Taiwanese visitors, boosting demand for air transportation from Taiwan.
Among Taiwanese carriers, only Far Eastern Air Transport currently operates charter flights between Da Nang and Taoyuan that began in July 2018 and between Da Nang and Kaohsiung that started in October 2018.
Data compiled by the Tourism Bureau showed the number of Taiwanese visitors to Vietnam rose to 659,123 in 2018, from 564,002 in 2017.
