Thousands run, cycle across Danjiang Bridge before it opens

2026/04/19 14:43

Before its official opening on May 12, the newly built Danjiang Bridge -- spanning the mouth of the Tamsui River and linking New Taipei’s Tamsui and Bali districts -- was briefly opened to the public this weekend for special events, offering a first look at Taiwan’s newest landmark. Around 7,000 people took part in a road run on Saturday, while about 2,500 cyclists took part in a bike event on Sunday, giving the public a rare chance to experience the bridge since construction began in 2019. Set to open to traffic on May 12, the Danjiang Bridge will be the world's longest-span single-mast asymmetric cable-stayed bridge, with a main river-crossing section of 920 meters and a main span of 450 meters. It is expected to reduce travel time from Tamsui district to Taoyuan International Airport, Taiwan’s main gateway, by around 25 minutes.
