Taipei, Dec. 7 (CNA) Artists from the United States will be taking part in a month-long container arts festival in Kaohsiung beginning this week, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said Wednesday.
Using creativity and imagination, five teams of installation artists will transform mundane cargo containers into works of art representing the cities in which they live, according to a press release from the AIT.
The U.S. artists are from four of Kaohsiung's sister cities, Honolulu, San Antonio, Tulsa and Miami, as well as New York City.
Besides the U.S. contingent, artists from Taiwan, Spain, Germany and Italy will also be taking part in the event and meeting with the public through various activities in the upcoming weeks, according to festival's official website, which encouraged visitors to interact with the artists as they decorate the containers.
The AIT, which represents U.S. interests in Taiwan in the absence of diplomatic ties, is a sponsor of the festival.
