Taipei, May 22 (CNA) Jailed former President Chen Shui-bian will be escorted under guard to receive another medical check-up Wednesday at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in the New Taipei district of Linkou, Taipei Prison officials said Tuesday.
Chen's family earlier applied to the prison, where Chen is serving a 17.5-year sentence for corruption, for another medical check-up, saying that his condition has not improved since treatment he received at Taoyuan General Hospital in March and April.
Chen underwent cardiac catheterization at the Taoyuan hospital after complaining of discomfort in his chest. Chen was also diagnosed with tumors in his prostate.
The ex-president is scheduled to leave the prison at 6 a.m. and to arrive at the hospital within 15 minutes.
A decision on whether he needs to stay overnight for observation will be left up to the doctors at the Linkou hospital, the prison officials said.
Chen was indicted again a day earlier for illegally seizing confidential government documents when he left the presidency in 2008 and transferring them to his own personal office. He allegedly was set to use them as evidence against other politicians.
