Taipei, July 24 (CNA) The Hon Hai Group, the world's largest contract manufacturer of consumer electronics, confirmed Tuesday that it will invest in a broadband satellite network in Jiangsu Province, China.

Hon Hai, which operates in China as Foxconn Technology Group, recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the United States-based Hughes Network System (HughesNet) and China-based Golden Concord Group to set up a broadband satellite network operation center and R&D and production base in the city of Wuxi.

Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou attended the signing ceremony in the provincial capital of Nanjing, the company said.

The companies, along with the Wuxi City government, will set up a joint venture -- Hughes Net (Wuxi) Corp. -- to run the operations, which will be part of Hon Hai's plans to tap into the cloud computing business.

During Hon Hai's annual shareholders' meeting in mid-June, Gou announced the company's plan to develop applications on multiple screens ranging from smartphones, tablets, and TVs to large outdoor LED displays, connecting these end-user devices with each other via cloud computing technology.
