Taiwanese weightlifter takes gold, two silvers at worlds

Taipei, Nov. 10 (CNA) Taiwanese weightlifter Hsu Shu-ching won a silver medal in the overall competition in the women's under-53kg division at the World Weightlifting Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Monday.

Hsu, who won gold at the Asian Games in Incheon in late September with a combined lift of 233 kilos, managed only a combined lift of 218 kilos in Kazakhstan to take silver behind Asian Games silver medalist Zulfiya Chinshanlo of the host nation.

The Taiwanese also won medals for her performance in the individual snatch and clean and jerk categories, which are awarded medals at the World Championships but not the Asian Games.

Hsu took gold in the snatch with a lift of 99 kilos and a silver in the clean and jerk with a lift of 119 kilos. She posted lifts of 101 kilos in the snatch and 132 kilos in the clean and jerk at Incheon.

Chinshanlo won gold medals with a combined lift of 232 kilos and a clean and jerk of 134 kilos to give the host nation its first podium finish at the competition.
