Taipei, Jan. 10 (CNA) Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) Deputy Secretary General Kuan An-lu (管安露) has reportedly been named to serve as SEF spokesperson, a position that has been vacant for nearly four months, a source said Wednesday on condition of anonymity, ahead of an official announcement.

Kuan is to assume the post on Jan. 15 and slated to host her first SEF news briefing on Jan. 24, according to the source.

The SEF is a semi-official organization in charge of civilian exchanges with China in the absence of official ties.

Kuan, who doubles as the head of SEF's Department of Legal Affairs, was previously a judge with the Taiwan High Court Kaohsiung Branch.

After taking the SEF posts on Sept. 1, 2016, Kuan visited New Taipei District Court and Kaohsiung District Court together with the Chinese spouses of Taiwan nationals and also attended seminars to help them better understand how to access legal information and resources in Taiwan and protect their legal rights.

Since Lee Li-jane (李麗珍), current secretary-general of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), Taiwan's top government agency tasked with handling cross-strait affairs, resigned her concurrent positions as SEF deputy secretary-general and spokesperson in September 2017, the spokesperson position has remained unfilled.
