TSMC, others hold recruitment campaign in Silicon Valley

Taipei, Sept. 28 (CNA) Fourteen Taiwanese tech companies and the National Development Council (NDC) held a talent recruitment campaign at the annual Taiwan Tech Summit in Silicon Valley over the weekend that offered more than 1,000 job openings in Taiwan.

The campaign, called Taiwan Career Day, has been a staple in one form or another at the summit since the summit's inception in 2022, and the 2026 version held Saturday, California time, attracted 3,000 visitors, according to the NDC.

NDC head Yeh Chun-hsien (葉俊顯) was cited in the statement as saying that locating this overseas talent recruitment platform in Silicon Valley was critical given that Taiwan continues to develop key tech sectors such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors and faces global competition for talent.

The initiative, Yeh said, is aimed at bringing talent services directly to where talent is located and promoting job and career development opportunities in Taiwan.

It gives skilled international tech workers an opportunity to learn more about Taiwan and explore career opportunities through direct contact with Taiwanese companies, he said.

Among the Taiwanese companies participating in Taiwan Career Day were contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), power management solutions provider Delta Electronics Inc., telecom operator Taiwan Mobile Co., and DRAM supplier Micron Taiwan, the NDC said.

Also represented were AI server maker Wistron Corp., smartphone IC designer MediaTek Inc. and semiconductor equipment maker Applied Materials Taiwan, according to the NDC.

At the fair, the 14 companies were seeking skilled tech workers in such fields as semiconductors, information and communications technology, software and AI development, it said.

Several Taiwanese research institutions, including Academia Sinica and the Industrial Technology Research Institute, and universities also took part in the job fair and arranged one-on-one interviews for teaching and research positions.

In addition to the NDC, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the National Immigration Agency, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Taiwan's overseas offices set up booths at the job fair to promote Taiwan's efforts to recruit foreign talent.

At the recruitment event, Michel Foley, a senior software engineer at U.S. software developer Salesforce, received Taiwan's Employment Gold Card from Yeh.

Launched by the NDC in 2018, the Employment Gold Card program aims to attract skilled professionals in 12 fields, including digital technology, finance, arts and culture, law, and science and technology.

The card combines a work permit, resident visa, Alien Resident Certificate and re-entry permit, allowing holders to seek employment freely in Taiwan. It also grants work rights to spouses, access to the national health insurance system for dependents, and tax incentives.
