Taiwan secures 4th Olympic taekwondo berth
Taipei, May 22 (CNA) Taekwondo athlete Lo Chia-ling (羅嘉翎) became the fourth and final member of the Taiwanese team to secure a berth at the Tokyo Olympics Games, after beating her opponent in the Asian Qualification Tournament in Amman, Jordan, Saturday.
According to the sport's governing body World Taekwondo, Lo is the second seed in the women's -67kg event at the tournament.
The young athlete beat Laetitia Aoun of Lebanon 21-11 in a three-round match, becoming the fourth Taiwanese taekwondo fighter to secure a spot in the upcoming summer Olympics in Tokyo after teammates Liu Wei-ting (劉威廷), Huang Yu-jen (黃鈺仁) and Su Po-ya (蘇柏亞).
According to World Taekwondo's qualification system for the Tokyo Olympics, there will be four weight categories for men and four for women.
Each country can send one athlete to compete in each category, except for Japan, which is allotted two places as the host nation of the Tokyo Olympics set to take place from July 23 to Aug. 8.
