BASEBALL/Taichung Zhongshan Junior High wins 2 baseball championships in 4 days

Taipei, Aug. 14 (CNA) Zhongshan Junior High School was part of a Taichung team that won the PONY League World Series in the United States on Wednesday, winning a second junior baseball title in the U.S. for Taiwan in the span of four days after the school secured a Junior League Baseball World Series win on Sunday.
The school's Wednesday victory in the Pony division for players 14 and under was achieved with a composite team made up of players mainly from the school but also the Taichung City United Team.
Together, the Chinese Taipei team represented the Asia-Pacific Zone after a long winning streak in the Asian regional circuit where the Taichung team beat the Philippines, Guam, Hong Kong and South Korea.
On Wednesday, Taichung defeated the championship host area champions, team Washington County, at the Lew Hays PONY Field in Washington County, Pennsylvania.
The Taiwan team countered the host team's homefield advantage with a 6-4 victory after falling behind early on.
Zhongshan Junior High School also secured a 2025 Junior League Baseball World Series Game title for athletes between 12-14 years old on Sunday at Michigan's Heritage Park.
The school took an 8-1 victory over the Vine-Ingle Little League team from Macon, Georgia, which represented the southeast region of the U.S.
According to the Taiwan Little League Baseball Association (TLLB), the win was the Taichung school's fourth junior league title following victories in 2014, 2015 and 2022.
The association said the Taichung school had performed outstandingly since the domestic trials bracket in April.
The team defeated teams from Taiwan and other Asian countries before securing the right to represent the Asia-Pacific region at the 2025 Junior League Baseball World Series.
The TLLB also announced Taiwan's participation at the 2025 Little League Baseball World Series for players between the ages of 10-12 scheduled for Aug. 13-24.
Taipei's Tung-Yuan Little League team will play its first game against the El Swing Perfecto Little League team from Mexico at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Little League International Complex in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The TLLB invited all Taiwanese baseball fans to support the young athletes by tuning into the game via Taiwan's sports channels on TV and other streaming services such as YouTube at 1 a.m. Friday. There is a 12-hour time difference between Pennsylvania and Taiwan.
