Taiwan's Chou advances to quarterfinals at Badminton Asia
Taipei, April 25 (CNA) Taiwanese Chou Tien-chen (周天成) advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's singles at the Badminton Asia Championships in China on Thursday with a win over his Chinese competitor.
In a match that last 36 minutes, the fifth-seeded Chou scored a 21-10, 21-10 victory over Lin Dan (林丹), who had won six of seven of their previous encounters, including the most recent one at the Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur earlier in the month.
At the Badminton Asia Championships in Wuhan, Chou will next face Japanese Kenta Nishimoto, whom he has defeated in three of their four previous matches.
Meanwhile in the women's doubles, Taiwan's Chang Ching-hui (張淨惠) and Yang Ching-tun (楊景惇) also advanced to the quarterfinals, after beating the Sri Lankan duo of Thilini Pramodika Hendahewa and Kavidi Sirimannage 21-18, 24-22.
The 2019 Badminton Asia Championships, which concludes on April 28, carries a purse of US$400,000.
